Jack Radow
Longtime Lake Oswego resident Jack Radow died April 22, 2008. He was 95.
The oldest of four boys, he was born in 1931 in Portage, Pa. Upon graduation from high school at the age of 16, he went to work in Pittsburgh to help support his family. He spent his career in the retail industry and retired from Lipman’s in 1978.
During World War II, Mr. Radow served as a captain in the 5th Air Force in Australia, New Guinea, The Philippines and the Army of Occupation in Japan.
Mr. Radow met Jeanne Michaels of New York at an American Veterans Committee meeting in Columbus, Ohio. They recently celebrated 60 years of marriage.
A lifelong reader, Mr. Radow’s legacy is his work with the Lake Oswego Library, and, in particular, with the Friends of the Library’s used book store, The Booktique, which reached the $1 million mark in used books sold in 2007 with all proceeds going to the Lake Oswego Library.
He served on a number of local boards including: ACLU, Urban League, Old Church, Contemporary Crafts, Friends of Chamber Music, Portland Youth Orchestra and the original Chamber Music Northwest.
Survivors include his wife Jeanne, son and daughter-in-law Michael Radow and Anno Ballard, four grandchildren and his brother Richard Radow of Arvada, Colo.
A private celebration will be held at a later date.

Jean Richards Vaught died April 23, 2008. She was 88.
She was born on Dec. 28, 1919 in Boise, Idaho, to Bertha Montgomery and Leroy E. Richards. She married Robert Vaught in l942 and the couple moved to Lake Oswego in l949. In l999 they moved to West Linn, and then in 2005, Mrs. Vaught moved to Oregon City.
She worked as a librarian for the Canby School District.
She is survived by her daughter, Nina Vaught; sons-in-law Ryan Butson of Troutdale and Jim Powell of Oregon City; five grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Robert, who died in 2002; and her daughters Brenda and Donna, who both died in 2007.
There is no service scheduled.
Thomas G. Rodrigues of Tualatin died April 26, 2008. He was 87.
