Eleanor Edick

Eleanor May (Ringler) Powers Edick died Jan. 22, 2009. She was 99.

Mrs. Edick was born May 1, 1909 to Ann and Charles Ringler in Portland, the second of their two daughters. She spent summers horseback riding at Welches, picnicking with her family at Oswego Lake and hiking the Portland Hills. She graduated from Washington High School in Portland.

After graduation she worked at Olds, Wortman and Kings, an exclusive women’s apparel shop in downtown Portland. Enamoured by the fashion industry, she saved enough money to go to Chicago and work in women’s fashion for a year. It was there that she happened to meet Portlander Charlie Powers, in town on business.

The couple fell in love and was married at Trinity Episcopal Church in Portland in 1936. Mr. Powers had a son Mike from a previous marriage; son Jim, born in 1937, and daughter Linda, born in 1940, completed the family. They moved to Lake Oswego in 1937.

Mr. Powers died in 1964.

Mrs. Powers remarried in 1972 to Ken Edick. The couple split their time between Salem and Gearhart and loved traveling. Mr. Edick died in 1978, and Mrs. Edick moved back to Lake Oswego to be close to her children and their families.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law Jim and Darlene Powers of Oregon City, daughter and son-in-law Linda and Roger Manning of Lake Oswego, four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, step-daughter-in-law Dorothy Powers and her five children in Northern California. Her stepson Mike preceded her in death, as did grandson Christopher.

The family will hold a private celebration of her life on May 1, 2009, which would have been Mrs. Edick’s 100th birthday.

Joseph Aldrich

Joseph Coffin Aldrich died Feb. 12, 2009 of Parkinson’s disease. He was 68.

Dr. Aldrich was born Nov. 16, 1940 in Portland to Dr. Willard and Doris Aldrich. He was raised in Vancouver, Wash., and graduated from Hudson’s Bay High School.
