Irene Chris Walz
Irene “Chris” Walz died June 22, 2009. She was 86.
She was born in Des Moines, N.M. on April 5, 1923 to Verda Rae Fuson and John Carroll. She was raised in Los Angeles and graduated from Los Angeles High School in 1941. She attended Santa Barbara State Teacher’s College.
During WWII, Mrs. Walz worked as a bank teller in Watsonville, Calif. where she met her future husband Ensign Paul Walz, who was in training with a Navy Carrier Squadron.
The couple was married on March 8, 1945 at the Del Monte Chapel in Monterey, Calif. They recently celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary.
In 1964, the Walz’s moved to Lake Oswego. Mrs. Walz was an active member of the Lake Grove Presbyterian Church and served as a deacon. She volunteered in the Salvation Army Auxiliary, the Clackamas County Big Sister Program and the shelter for the homeless in Lake Oswego.
She is survived by her husband, Paul, and her daughter and son-in-law Candice W. and Charles M. Collins.
Her son, Paul R. Walz, preceded her in death in 1985.
