Kay Cornett
Kathleen “Kay” (Field) Cornett died Aug. 29, 2009. She was 92.
Mrs. Cornett was born May 11, 1917, to William and Harriet (Henry) Field in Blanchard, Mich. Her father died early in her life and her mother became a chief dietician for veteran’s hospitals in Louisiana and Walla Walla, Wash. Mrs. Cornett grew up in Walla Walla, and graduated from Walla Walla High School. She graduated from the University of Washington where she was a member of Gamma Phi Beta sorority.
She married Thomas Crockett Cornett, Jr. in March 1944. Their son William Thomas Cornett was born in 1945. The family moved to Lake Oswego in 1958.
Mrs. Cornett was a homemaker and loved to travel. She was a member of the Washington Athletic Club, Junior Club of Walla Walla, Walla Walla Country Club, and Oswego Lake Country Club.
Her son, Bill Cornett of Lake Oswego, survives her. Her husband, Tom Cornett died in 1988.
A Requiem Mass will be held Sept. 16 at 11 a.m. at the Parish of St. Mark, N.W. 21st at Marshall streets in Portland, with a reception following at 1 p.m. at 827 Berwick Court in Lake Oswego.
Remembrances may be made to the Oregon Humane Society, Cat Adoption Team of Sherwood or a charity of choice.
Hildaura M. Parker died of kidney failure in her daughter’s home in Manchester, Wash. on Aug. 20, 2009. She was 92.
She was born in El Roble, Pana-ma on Dec. 4, 1916 to Francisco Carrion and Cecilia Espinosa.
She was raised in El Roble, and graduated from secondary school at Aguadulce. In 1940, she earned her nursing degree at the Hospital Santa Tomas in Panama City, and then went on to earn her surgical nursing degree in 1945 at Cornell Medical School in New York.
She worked as a surgical nurse until she retired in 1996. From 1957 to 1972 she served as a Consul for Panama to Portland. The Portland Chamber of Commerce honored her in 1969 for her “dedication of valuable service.”
She and C. Russell Parker, M.D. were married in New York in 1945. The couple moved to Lake Oswego in 1957, and later divorced. Mrs. Parker moved to Cedar Hills in 1972.
Mrs. Parker enjoyed travel, dance, art and gardening. She loved to entertain and was known for a wide selection of coffees.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Yolanda and O. Ray Pardo of Manchester, Wash., two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
The service will be held on Sept. 10 at 2 p.m. at the Oswego Heritage House, and the visitation will follow. Iterment is planned for Feb. 10, 2010 at 1 p.m. in El Roble, Panama.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to the Hildaura Parker Nursing Scholarship at the University of Portland, Office of Development, 5000 N. Willamette Blvd., Portland, OR 97203, or your community hospice care center.
R.C. “Richard” Smith died Aug. 7, 2009. He was 79.
Mr. Smith was born Aug. 1, 1930 in Altoona, Ala., the youngest of Arthur L. and Lillie V. (Tarvin) Smith’s seven children. He attended Walnut Grove High in Etowah County, Ala.
Mr. Smith followed an older brother to Oregon, lured by the prospects of opportunity. He worked at a variety of jobs before he was drafted into military service. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1950 to serve in the Korean War.
Following his discharge in February 1953, he returned to Portland and enrolled in school to become a hairdresser.
