Sgt. Elijah Rao
Sgt. Elijah John-Miles Rao, 26, of Lake Oswego died Dec. 5, 2009 in Alin Gar District, Western Nuristan Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when enemy forces attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device while Sgt. Rao was supporting Operation Enduring Freedom. Sgt. Rao was 26.
Sgt. Rao was born Jan. 10, 1983 in Forest Grove, Ore. He grew up in Eagle Creek and graduated from West Linn High School in 2001.
Compelled by the events of 9-11, Sgt. Rao enlisted in the U.S. Army at age 21.
