Lake Oswego Swim Club shines at state meet

ADVERTISEMENTS

Forty-two swimmers from the Lake Oswego Swim Club qualified for and competed in the 11 & Over Long Course State Championship meet at Mt. Hood Community College on July 26-29 and made quite a stir in the swimming community. The swimmers’ months of hard work were rewarded with a second-place overall team finish, the result of points earned by many impressive swims.

“The kids put in so much hard work and determination this summer. It was great to see some of our swimmers who have never made the finals before step up big for our team by finishing in the top-eight for the first time in their careers,” head coach Coley Stickels said.

Nine state records were broken at the meet — seven of them by LOSC.

“We really swam well as a team. When our 11-12 Girls relay broke the state record on the first event of the night, it really set the momentum up for the other relays that followed. Watching their teammates swim at such a high level, the rest of the group had the confidence that they could do the same,” Stickels said.

Sixteen first-place individual finishes were achieved by:
