Lake Oswego wasn’t in danger of losing its homecoming game against Milwaukie on Friday but, in many ways, games like last week’s can be difficult. It’s easy for a team to let its concentration lapse and not put out its best effort as a result.
That didn’t happen with the Lakers. Lake Oswego did whatever it wanted to against the Mustangs, racking up 42 points in the first half and rolling to a 48-0 win.
Coach Steve Coury was able to play every eligible athlete on the roster and five different players scored touchdowns in the game.
“I thought the kids did a great job staying focused and were ready to play. They took care of business quickly,” Coury said.
Lake Oswego didn’t do anything differently on offense. It mixed the pass and the run well and quarterback Jack Lomax put up video game statistics once again.
The senior has been doing that for pretty much the entire season, tabulating 26 touchdown passes and one interception to date. He is also averaging over 11 yards per pass attempt.
“Jack’s been incredible. Those are some unreal numbers. I can’t imagine there are many players in the country doing what he’s going right now,” Coury said.
Against the Mustangs, Lomax completed 12 of 13 passes for 238 yards and four touchdowns.
Lake Oswego got on the board quickly on a one—yard pass from Lomax to Will Storey. It was the first of four first-quarter touchdowns for the Lakers.
Lake Oswego’s defense was dominant as well, rarely giving up a sizeable play to Milwaukie. The defense forced a quick turnover as Jeff Kremer deflected and intercepted a pass attempt that he ran back 23 yards for the team’s second score.
