Lakers sew up Three Rivers League title with 49-24 win over OC

It wasn't exactly easy but, in the end, Lake Oswego did what it needed to do to clinch another Three Rivers League title and a first-round bye in the playoffs.

The Lakers knocked off Oregon City 49-24 in a game that was much closer than the score would indicate.

Neither team could stop the other's running game but Lake Oswego's attack was just a little more dominant on Friday. Lake Oswego started with the ball and scored in just two minutes on a 16-yard keeper by quarterback Will Storey.

But Oregon City responded. Anthony Rhemrev-Field had three big runs before Jean-Claude Guadiz busted a 24-yard touchdown jaunt to tie the game.

The first half looked more like a track meet as, just three plays later, on third and nine, Storey hit an uncovered Brock Pellow for a 64-yard touchdown strike.

After the Pioneers fumbled the ensuing kick-off, it appeared that the Lakers might be set to put the game away early. But Lake Oswego couldn't capitalize on its good field position and turned the ball over on downs.

Oregon City then mounted a nice drive and converted on fourth and five with Zach Roberts' 11-yard completion to Ronnie Simmons. That set up a two-yard touchdown from Rhemrev-Field to tie the game again.
