Lake Oswego freshman guard Alli Binns works against a Skyview defender in a game on Tuesday morning. The Lakers fell in the game as a handful of players have gone down with injuries early in the year.
ADVERTISEMENTS
In some ways, the Lake Oswego girls basketball team is starting to resemble the Portland Trailblazers. If the Lakers thought they were banged up to start the season, they hadn't seen anything yet.
After dealing with more than their share of bumps and bruises early in the year plus the loss of Miranda Babcock-Krenk for the year before the season even began, Lake Oswego lost starting post Brandy Herald for the season to a shoulder injury in a game against Tualatin.
Then, in Lake Oswego's Interstate Shootout game against Skyview on Tuesday morning, Cali Reis came down awkwardly on an already injured ankle and needed help off the floor. Coach Paula Pietrok is hoping that Reis won't miss a significant amount of time.
"It's been a revolving door. We'll get one kid back and then lost another. It's tough to establish your rotations," Pietrok said.
Lake Oswego knew the competition would be stiff in the Swoosh Bracket of the Interstate Shootout and it was proved right.
The Lakers opened play against McNary and couldn't rebound from a slow start. Lake Oswego fell behind 14-5 after the first eight minutes of play but played evenly with the Celtics the rest of the way.
But the Lakers failed to make a significant dent in that early lead and lost 48-38.
