Lakeridge moved into the red zone but, on fourth and two, couldn’t convert for a second time and gave the ball back to Lake Oswego.
“We showed spurts at times and then we’d shoot ourselves in the foot,” Smythe said.
The Lakers moved quickly again and were aided by a defensive holding penalty against the Pacers.
Penalties were a huge issue for Lakeridge in the game as they committed 13 for 119 yards.
“There were a lot of nerves and that created a lack of concentration,” Swinford said.
Eventually Storey broke a 25-yard scramble and scored on an athletic leap into the end zone.
Lakeridge moved down the field again on its next drive thanks in large part to a 42-yard catch by Blake Dutton.
The drive stalled at the 14-yard line but Nick Sotta knocked a 31-yard field goal to put the Pacers on the board.
Lakeridge seemed to be gaining some momentum when it had the Lakers stopped on fourth and four and lining up for a punt but Storey took the snap and then threw to Brock Pellow on the fake for a first down.
Two plays later, Storey hit Stevie Coury for a 19-yard touchdown.
Lakeridge was then held to a three and out and, on the first play of Lake Oswego’s next possession, Storey hit Grant Patton for a 48-yard touchdown.
Swinford picked up two first down on scrambles on the Pacers’ next drive and appeared to set Lakeridge up with a first and goal opportunity but his 22-yard pass to Wippert was called back because of a hold.
“We just have to figure out how to score once we get inside the 20,” Swinford said.
The Pacers couldn’t convert on fourth down and, in the closing minutes of the first half, Storey hit Cole Naone for a 47-yard gain before connecting with Stowell on a shovel pass that went for a 13-yard score with 47 seconds to play.
Lake Oswego would also score on its first possession of the second half.
The Lakers marched 84 yards on the ground on a drive that took up a good portion of the third quarter and Whit Bissett scored on fourth and goal at the one-yard line to make it 42-3.
In the fourth quarter, Jeff Nakashima came in at quarterback for the Pacers and completed a 28-yard pass to Dutton. On the next play, Wippert scored on a 21-yard run.
Lakeridge will host Clackamas tonight (Thursday) while Lake Oswego will travel to Putnam.
